Welcome Clergy and Educators

Thank you for your interest in the JFTL Mitzvah Project – a community service project perfect for Bar, Bat, or B’nai Mitzvah teens and young adults to do a good deed by raising money and building awareness for Holocaust education.

Through the JFTL Mitzvah Project, Bar, Bat, or B’nai Mitzvah teens reflect on the dangers of unchecked hate and better understand the experiences of Holocaust survivors by figuratively “walking in their shoes.”

Participants sign up for their own unique fitness challenge and commit to walk, run, or ride at least 15 miles in one month. This represents the journey that Mark Schonwetter, a Holocaust survivor, walked as a young boy in one night, along with his sister and mother, to escape the Nazis.

Participants receive a customizable fundraising web page to easily engage family, friends, and their community to increase the Mitzvah Project’s impact.

Our #TakeTheJourney toolkit provides meaningful, mile-by-mile reflections to highlight the significance of their effort.

This project can be completed at any time and place.

Who Does It Help?

The money raised goes directly to expand and support Holocaust Education Grants to teach anti-hate initiatives, respect, and kindness to students nationwide. By educating youth about the darkest parts of our history, we can teach them about the dangers of hate and empower them to shape a brighter future.

“Overall, the visit emphasized to my students the need for empathy and a commitment to justice and humanity, underscoring the necessity of such educational experiences in cultivating informed and compassionate individuals.”
